About Us

Established in 1975, when The Islamia University of Bahawalpur received its charter, the Department of Political Science is one of the University’s pioneering departments. Its teaching and research focus on political theory, governance, and international affairs, preparing students to examine political questions critically and contribute to academic and public life.

The Department offers programmes from undergraduate to doctoral level, alongside a diploma focused on local governance and community engagement:

• BS Political Science (4 Years): After 12 years of education.
• BS Political Science (2 Years): After 14 years of education.
• MPhil Political Science
• PhD Political Science
• Diploma in Local Government and Community Engagement: After 14 years of education.

Our faculty comprises 11 members: three Associate Professors, one Assistant Professor, and seven Lecturers. Seven faculty members hold PhDs, while the remaining four are at advanced stages of their doctoral studies. This academic community supports students in developing subject knowledge, research skills, and the ability to construct informed, evidence-based arguments.

Our alumni serve in leading universities, public and private colleges and schools, the civil service, police, media, and think tanks. They also contribute through the Election Commission of Pakistan, national and provincial assemblies, district administration, local governments, and active participation in politics. Their varied careers reflect the relevance of political science to education, governance, public debate, and community service.

The Department’s mission connects high-quality teaching and research with critical inquiry, ethical leadership, and engagement with policymakers and civil society. We aim to equip students with the intellectual and practical skills to address complex political challenges and contribute to democratic governance, social justice, and sustainable development at national and global levels.
