Department of Political Science

Why is political organization crucial for societies? Why do some political systems perform better than others? Who wields power within a political system and how does it impact individuals based on their gender? How are the policies developed and laws made to maintain order and justice in society? What are the mechanisms to develop and implement those policies and laws? Is there any way to redress the problems related to policy development and implementation and to develop a better political system?

The Department of Political Science at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is dedicated to the exploration of complex and intriguing phenomena of state, politics, and society. Our department is composed of a distinguished faculty, including foreign-qualified and experienced scholars, with diverse academic backgrounds and interests. With a team that includes seven Ph.D. holders and several more nearing completion of their doctorate, we are committed to providing students with a top-notch educational experience.

We offer a range of programs designed to equip students with the latest knowledge and skills in the field of political science. Our undergraduate programs include four distinct options: a diploma program, BS Public Policy and Governance, BS Gender Studies, and BS Politics and Parliamentary Studies. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive BS program in Political Science, available both in the morning and evening sessions. For those seeking advanced study, we provide M. Phil and Ph.D. programs in Political Science.

As a department, we take pride in fostering an environment that encourages research and academic excellence. We host two research centers of excellence: the Women Development Center and the Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution. These centers provide platforms for scholars and students to engage in cutting-edge research, addressing pertinent issues related to gender, development, peace, and conflict resolution.

To complement our academic programs, we offer various opportunities for socio-political and institutional learning through a range of extracurricular activities. These include seminars, workshops, conferences, study tours, and semester dinners. By participating in these activities, students can broaden their understanding of real-world political dynamics and gain practical insights.

Our commitment extends beyond the classroom, as we strive to assist our students in excelling and pursuing distinguished careers in various fields. Our alumni have achieved notable success as academicians, researchers, and valuable contributors to public and private sector organizations. They hold positions in universities, civil services, federal and provincial government organizations, national and multinational companies, non-governmental organizations, and electronic/print media groups.
