The Department is playing a vital role in promoting and spreading Persian language and literature. Our mission is to revive the glory of Persian language and literature which is one of the best philosophical literatures. Persian has rich linguistics as well as cultural background dating back to thousands of years in this part of the world. Persian was the Court Language in the sub-continent before 1857. Persian is necessary to improve learning and teaching of Urdu, Punjabi, Saraiki, Sindhi, Pushto and other local languages. A large portion of poetry by Mirza Ghalib and Allama Iqbal is in Persian. Even in order to  understand Urdu poetry of Mirza Ghalib and Allama Iqbal, one must know Persian. There are also world class poets in Persian e.g: Saadi, Hafiz, Molana Rumi etc. So the preservation and projection of our literary, linguistic and cultural heritage requires learning of this language. Dearth of scholars in Persian is alarming, for It is high time to learn Persian in order to make up for the loss already done.
