About Us
The Department of Livestock Management was established in 2020 following the upgradation of the University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences into the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Recognizing the importance of livestock and the need to explore and utilize its full potential, the Department was established with the aim of providing students with hands-on knowledge and expertise in livestock farming. It equips students with modern skills in establishing, managing, and maintaining animal production activities.
The Department has a highly qualified and skilled faculty with sound knowledge and expertise in various aspects of animal farming. The faculty’s areas of expertise range from dairy farming, including cattle, buffaloes, and camels, to meat production, including the fattening of large ruminants and goats, as well as stud farming.
Facilities
The Department has well-equipped undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories for academic and research activities related to various aspects of livestock management and milk quality analysis.
The Department also utilizes the Faculty’s livestock farm facilities for demonstration, practical training, and research purposes. These facilities showcase various ruminant species originating from the Southern Punjab region. The Department maintains nucleus herds of Makhi-Cheeni goats for research and genetic improvement purposes. In addition, the Department has an established Livestock Business Education and Training Unit that provides practical education and training in commercial livestock farming and management.
Teaching
The Department currently offers an MPhil in Livestock Management and provides courses for various undergraduate degree programs, diploma programs, and vocational training courses. The Department also offers practical and professional training programs aimed at developing skills relevant to livestock production and farm management.

• Bachelor of Science in Poultry Sciences
• Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD)
• Stud Farm Supervisor | Dairy Farm Supervisor | NAVTTC Short Courses
These academic, diploma, and short-course programs are designed to provide students and trainees with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and contemporary expertise in livestock production, dairy farming, stud farm management, and other related areas.
Moreover, the Department intends to launch a PhD program in Livestock Management in the near future.
Research and Publications
The Department conducts problem-oriented and applied research in the field of livestock farming to address challenges faced by farmers, livestock industries, and allied sectors. The Department promotes research in areas including livestock production and management, dairy farming, meat production, animal nutrition, reproduction, breeding, milk quality, animal welfare, and sustainable livestock production.
In line with its focus on applied and problem-oriented research, the Department is currently undertaking several research projects funded by national funding agencies, including PARB, HEC, PSF, and PARC.

Extension and Collaboration
In addition to its academic and research activities, the Department has made significant contributions to addressing field-level problems and supporting farmers in Southern Punjab, particularly in the Cholistan region.
The Department promotes knowledge transfer, farmer education, technical guidance, and collaboration with livestock farms, industry, research organizations, and other relevant stakeholders.
