Khawaja Ghulam Farid (R.A) was a great Sufi-Saint of the 19th Century. His Sufi-poetry written in Saraiki language is immensely popular across the globe. Khawaja Farid R.A's choice of local culture as a theme of his work, makes him the most revered personality of the South Punjab.
His message of inclusivity, love, humanity and indiscrimination is still relevant in contemporary times and needs constant reiteration.
Khawaja Farid Chair under the auspices of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur was established in year 1996. The purpose of the establishment of the Chair was to preserve, publish and promote the teachings of the great Sufi-Saint through diverse activities.
Khawaja Farid Chair is an effective platform for the dissemination of Khawaja Farid’s message. The Chair aims to engage youth as well as general population with its activities so that it shall be able to successfully contribute towards consolidation of peace and tolerance in our society.
It is a great privilege to be an honorary director of Khawaja Farid Chair at IUB. The Khawaja Farid Chair is a great platform to promote and propagate the teachings of Khawaja Farid R.A and other Sufi-Mystics of our land. The Chair can play an effective role in countering the menace of extremism and radicalism in our society. It can also help in our social development by persuading people towards the great paths of mysticism.
We at Chair intend to adopt latest tools and modern work approaches in following our agenda. We also aim to focus on youth by interacting in their own nomenclature and ways. Thus our focus is to modernise the Chair while maintaining its core values and objectives.
I hope the Khawaja Farid Chair shall soon become an exemplary organisation that complements the vision of the University and contributes towards our society.
