The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Vice-Chancellor Engr Prof Dr. Athar Mahboob said the university was working for environmental protection and climate change and in this regard, two major initiatives have been taken. While talking to Muhammad Ali Zamir, station manager, APP here, he told that the first initiative was the establishment of the Inter-University Consortium for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, which was established about three months ago. The vice chancellor said that the consortium has more than 70 organizations as its members and more than 50 of them are universities in Pakistan. He said that Punjab Governor and Chancellor of the university Engr Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman has also indicated his support for this consortium and that it was his idea that climate change action should be initiated at the university level. The vice chancellor said that another initiative taken by the university for climate change is the rain enhancement program for Cholistan. He told that after approval from the Punjab chief minister the trials for this ionization project will start and the average rainfall of Cholistan will be increased from 100 mm per year to 600 mm per year. Engr Prof Dr. Athar Mahboob told that this will also help in making around 6.7 million acres of Cholistan land arable and turn Cholistan into a food basket. He said many new programs are being initiated at the university after approval from concerned councils including architecture, nursing, veterinary, and animal sciences. To a question, he told that 17000 more students are expected to get admitted in the Fall 2022 intake and 2 new campuses at Ahamdpur East and Liaqatpur will become operational in the coming semester. After new admissions, the total number of students at the university will reach around 70,000. The vice chancellor said that in order to maintain a healthy teacher-student ratio, new recruitments are being done. As many as 400 new appointments have been done for the positions of lecturers in various departments and more than 250 associate lecturers will be recruited in a couple of months. He told that recruitment for the posts of Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors will be completed during the last quarter of this year. In addition, 1600 visiting faculty are also teaching at the university. He said that the visiting faculty will undergo mandatory pedagogical training to improve teaching standards at the university.

پروفیسر ڈاکٹر اطہر محبوب وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور نے کہا ہے کہ جامعہ ماحول کے تحفظ اور بقاء کے لیے فعال کردار ادا کر رہی ہے۔ اس سلسلے میں اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پورکا انٹرکنسورشیم برائے موسمیاتی تبدیلی اور دیرپاترقی کے اہداف بہت اہمیت کا حامل ہے۔ وائس چانسلر نے ان خیالات کا اظہار گزشتہ روز خبر رساں ایجنسی APP کے سٹیشن مینجر علی ضمیر سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ انٹریونیورسٹی کنسورشیم تین برس پہلے قائم کیا گیا اور اس میں 70سے زائد ادارے بشمول پاکستان کی 50 جامعات بھی ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ گورنر پنجاب انجینئر محمد بلیغ الرحمن نے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور کے اپنے گزشتہ دورے کے دوران انٹر کنسورشیم کے قیام پر خوشی کا اظہار کیا اور اس کی کامیابی کے لیے مکمل تائید اور حمایت کا یقین دلایا۔ وائس چانسلر نے کہا کہ موسمیاتی تبدیلی کے حوالے سے یونیورسٹی کا دوسرا اہم اقدام چولستان میں بارش میں اضافے کا پروگرام ہے۔ وزیر اعلیٰ پنجاب جناب حمزہ شہباز پہلے ہی اس منصوبے کی اصولی منظوری دے چکے ہیں۔ اس منصوبے سے چولستان میں بارش کی موجودہ شرح 100 ملی میٹر سے بڑھ کر 600 ملی میٹر ہو جائے گی۔ انجینئر پروفیسر ڈاکٹرا طہر محبوب نے کہا ہے کہ اس منصوبے سے چولستان میں 6.8ملین ایکٹر رقبہ زیر کاشت آجائے گا اور صحرائے چولستان ملک کے لیے ایک فوڈ باسکٹ بن جائے گی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاول پور میں مختلف ایکریڈیٹیشن کونسلزکے ذریعے آرکیٹیکچر، نرسنگ، وٹرنری، انجینئرنگ، ایگریکلچر، بزنس اور فارمیسی کے نئے پروگرام شروع کیے گئے ہیں۔ موجودہ داخلہ مہم سے متعلق ایک سوال کے جواب میں وائس چانسلر نے کہا کہ امسال موسم خزاں کی داخلہ مہم کے ذریعے 17 ہزار طلباء وطالبات کو داخلہ فراہم کیا جائے گا۔ ان داخلوں میں احمد پور شرقیہ اور لیاقت پور کیمپسز کے داخلے بھی شامل ہیں جنہیں فعال کر دیا جائے گا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن کے معیارات کے مطابق یونیورسٹی میں اساتذہ اور طلباء وطالبات کے تناسب کو بہتر کیا جارہا ہے۔ اس مقصد کے لیے سلیکشن بورڈ منعقد کرکے نئی تعیناتی کی جارہی ہے۔ حال ہی میں یونیورسٹی میں لیکچرار کی سطح کی 400 تعیناتیاں کی گئی ہیں اور 250 ایسوسی ایٹ لیکچرار کی تعیناتی کے لیے آئندہ دو ماہ میں تعیناتی کا عمل جاری رہے گا۔ وائس چانسلر نے بتایا کہ پروفیسر، ایسو سی ایٹ پروفیسر اور اسسٹنٹ پروفیسر کی تعیناتی سال کی آخری سماہی میں کی جائے گی۔ اس کے علاوہ 1600 وزیٹنگ فیکلٹی بھی یونیورسٹی میں تدریس میں مصروف عمل ہے۔ ریگولر فیکلٹی کے ساتھ ساتھ وزیٹنگ فیکلٹی کی تقریری کے لیے ٹریننگ کا اہتمام کیا جا رہا ہے تاکہ معیاری درس و تدریس کے لیے اساتذہ کرام کو ضروری تربیت فراہم کی جا سکے۔
