Keeping in mind the Islamic heritage of Bahawalpur State and to preserve the legacy of the renowned institution Jamia Islamia Bahawalpur, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Act provided the establishment of Faculty of law. A virtuous infrastructure was in focus to establish the faculty to be designed fulfilling the Constitutional requirements of transforming legal system of the state as envisioned in 1947. Inauguration of the subjects of Law and Shariah has been the prime objectives. The introduction of this faculty, indeed, was due since creation of the University itself as it was committed in the University Act 1975. This long awaited pride attracted the attention of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Engr. Athar Mahboob (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz),and the enthusiasm has let accomplished the need of protracted legal education for law students and legal fraternity including jurists, lawyers and judges. Though this faculty currently comprises of two departments, i.e., Department of Law and Department of Islamic and Shariah Law, it has the capacity to comprehend the legal education of different branches of law covering the national and international legal insights focusing the eventual coverage of related socio-economic disciplines. This faculty has the future plane versioned with the law related projects developing the society featured with the peace security and justice. Faculty is expected to expand further to become an established centre of research in contemporary legal education and illuminate profound assets of Classical Islamic legal system.
