About Us

Established in 2004, the Department of Social Work at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) is committed to academic excellence, professional social work practice, research, and community engagement. The Department has played an active role in academic and field-based social action initiatives aimed at addressing social challenges and contributing to the socio-economic development of Pakistan. The Department continuously updates its academic programs and curriculum to respond to emerging social issues and the changing needs of society. Its highly qualified and experienced faculty combines academic expertise with practical field experience, providing students with a strong foundation for professional and personal development.

The BS Social Work program prepares students for professional practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. It develops essential knowledge and skills in social welfare, community development, research, social justice, cultural competence, and work with marginalized and vulnerable populations. The MPhil Social Work program focuses on advanced research, critical analysis, and professional practice, enabling students to investigate social problems and contribute to evidence-based solutions. In 2021, the Department launched its PhD Social Work program, strengthening its role in advanced social work education and research in Pakistan.

The Department is also committed to promoting access to higher education for deserving students. Since Fall 2021, the Department has been providing scholarships for BS Social Work students through funds contributed by its alumni and in collaboration with welfare organizations. This initiative supports talented and deserving students who may otherwise face financial barriers to higher education. Through its academic programs, research, fieldwork, and community partnerships, the Department strives to develop competent, socially responsible professionals and researchers capable of contributing meaningfully to the well-being and development of individuals, families, and communities.

It strives to empower students and contribute to sustainable social development in Pakistan through collaboration with communities, government institutions, welfare organizations, and other stakeholders.
