About Us

Established in 1980, the Department of Economics is one of the pioneering academic departments of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Department offers a broad portfolio of academic programs, including BS Economics, BS Economics with IT, BS Economics and Finance, BS Business Economics, BS Development Studies, M.Phil. Economics (Regular/Weekend), and Ph.D. Economics. Its teaching and research cover theoretical, applied and quantitative economics, with emphasis on contemporary socioeconomic issues, data analysis, research methods and policy relevance. Students benefit from a modern computer laboratory, analytical software, multimedia facilities, the University’s central library and digital research resources. The Department promotes experiential learning, critical thinking, ethical decision-making and career readiness. Its graduates serve in academia, government, banking, finance, research, consultancy and other professional fields at national and international levels.

Mission Statement

To provide high-quality education in economics that combines sound economic theory with quantitative, qualitative and applied analytical skills; to cultivate critical thinking, ethical responsibility, research competence and evidence-based decision-making; and to prepare students for successful careers, advanced study and responsible citizenship. The Department seeks to maintain a collaborative teaching, learning and research environment aligned with national and international academic standards, while encouraging experiential learning and engagement with real-world economic problems. Through rigorous training, research, professional development and the effective use of data-analysis tools and digital resources, the Department aims to equip students and scholars to understand and address economic, social and development challenges at local, regional, national and global levels.
