About Us
The Department of Anatomy and Histology, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, was established in June 2020. Anatomy and Histology constitute fundamental disciplines of veterinary and biomedical education, providing an essential understanding of the structural organization of the animal body at both gross and microscopic levels. The academic scope of the department encompasses the study of the structure and organization of tissues, organs, and body systems, including the musculoskeletal, visceral, and other major systems.
The department has established facilities for both gross anatomy and histology teaching and research. Its Gross Anatomy Laboratory includes a spacious animal dissection hall supported by facilities for embalming, bone cutting, and skeleton preparation. A 65-inch interactive display is available to facilitate the teaching and demonstration of anatomical structures and to complement conventional dissection-based instruction. The Histology Laboratory is equipped to undertake routine histological processing, paraffin embedding and sectioning, hematoxylin and eosin staining, and preparation of permanent histological slides. These facilities serve both undergraduate practical teaching and postgraduate research.
The department has a faculty, qualified academics with expertise in anatomical and histological sciences. It contributes to the teaching of Anatomy and Histology in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), BS Animal Sciences, BS Physiology, and Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) programmes. At the postgraduate level, the department offers an M.Phil. programme in Anatomy and Histology, approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, and accredited by the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC).
In addition to its teaching responsibilities, the department is developing its capacity in research and postgraduate training, with emphasis on contemporary approaches to anatomical, histological, and related biomedical investigations. The department seeks to foster an academic environment that integrates sound foundational knowledge with practical skills and research-based learning.
The department is committed to the continued development of its academic and research programmes and intends to introduce a Ph.D. programme in Anatomy and Histology in the future. Through teaching, research, and postgraduate education, the department aims to contribute to the advancement of veterinary anatomical sciences and to the preparation of competent professionals and researchers in veterinary and biomedical disciplines.
