IUB Anthropology Department Hosts Legal Literacy Session on Gender-Based Violence and Migration Pathways

The Department of Anthropology at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur organized a legal literacy and awareness session focusing on Gender-Based Violence, workplace harassment, migration pathways, and educational opportunities in Europe, particularly Germany. The event was organized in collaboration with Society for Human Rights and Prisoners’ Aid. Dr. Mudassir Sanghaira delivered informative sessions on gender-based violence, workplace harassment, and legal protection mechanisms available for victims. Arooj and Ameena also conducted awareness sessions on Gender-Based Violence and relevant legal frameworks. Arno Kirchhof, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Islamabad, spoke about migration pathways and educational opportunities for Pakistani students in Germany and Europe. Distinguished speakers included Prof. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, and Prof. Muhammad Saleem, Chairman of Applied Psychology. Prof. Rubina Bhatti highlighted the university’s zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment and emphasized the importance of effectively implementing anti-harassment laws and policies at the university level. She also discussed the significance of addressing gender-based violence through institutional support and awareness. Prof. Muhammad Saleem remarked that “Gender-Based Violence has become a widely discussed issue and should be addressed with utmost responsibility and sensitivity.” Other distinguished participants included Prof. Malik Mureed from the Gender Studies Department at Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Dr. Abid Shahzad, Director of International Interlinkages, Dr. Naeem Asim, Head of the Department of Public Health, Dr. Ali Raza, and Dr. Moazzam Durrani from the Departments of Psychology and Anthropology. Students from the Departments of Anthropology, Psychology, and Public Health actively participated in the session. Speakers emphasized legal awareness, gender sensitivity, safe migration pathways, and international educational opportunities for youth. Dr. Farooq Ahmed thanked the guests and appreciated the contributions of SHARP. He emphasized that the collaboration would create valuable research, internship, training, and job opportunities for Anthropology students. Following the session, an MoU was signed between Society for Human Rights and Prisoners and the Department of Anthropology to strengthen collaboration in research, student internships, training programs, and other areas of mutual interest. The MoU was signed by Dr. Mudassir Sanghaira from Society for Human Rights and Prisoners, Prof. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dr. Farooq Ahmed, Chairperson of the Department of Anthropology. The event concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen academic collaboration, student engagement, and community-based initiatives in the future.

اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کے شعبہ بشریات نے ایک قانونی خواندگی اور آگاہی سیشن کا انعقاد کیا جس میں صنفی بنیاد پر تشدد، کام کی جگہ پر ہراساں کیے جانے، نقل مکانی کے راستے اور یورپ بالخصوص جرمنی میں تعلیمی مواقع پر توجہ دی گئی۔ اس تقریب کا اہتمام سوسائٹی فار ہیومن رائٹس اینڈ پریزنرز ایڈ کے تعاون سے کیا گیا تھا۔ ڈاکٹر مدثر سنگھیرا نے صنفی بنیاد پر تشدد، کام کی جگہ پر ہراساں کیے جانے، اور متاثرین کے لیے دستیاب قانونی تحفظ کے طریقہ کار پر معلوماتی سیشن پیش کیا۔ عروج اور امینہ نے صنفی بنیاد پر تشدد اور متعلقہ قانونی فریم ورک کے بارے میں آگاہی سیشن بھی منعقد کیا۔ اسلام آباد میں جرمن سفارت خانے کے ڈپٹی ہیڈ آف مشن آرنو کرچوف نے جرمنی اور یورپ میں پاکستانی طالبہ کے لیے تعلیمی مواقعوں کے بارے میں بات کی۔ معزز مقررین میں پروفیسر روبینہ بھٹی، ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز، اور پروفیسر محمد سلیم، چیئرمین اپلائیڈ سائیکالوجی شامل تھے۔ پروفیسر روبینہ بھٹی نے ہراساں کرنے کے حوالے سے یونیورسٹی کی زیرو ٹالرنس پالیسی پر روشنی ڈالی اور یونیورسٹی کی سطح پر ہراساں کرنے کے خلاف قوانین اور پالیسیوں کو مؤثر طریقے سے نافذ کرنے کی اہمیت پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے ادارہ جاتی تعاون اور آگاہی کے ذریعے صنفی بنیاد پر تشدد سے نمٹنے کی اہمیت پر بھی بات کی۔ پروفیسر محمد سلیم نے ریمارکس دیئے کہ جنسی بنیاد پر تشدد ایک وسیع پیمانے پر زیر بحث مسئلہ بن چکا ہے اور اسے انتہائی ذمہ داری اور حساسیت کے ساتھ حل کیا جانا چاہیے۔ دیگر معزز شرکاء میں بہاؤالدین زکریا یونیورسٹی ملتان کے شعبہ جینڈر سٹڈیز کے پروفیسر ملک مرید، انٹرنیشنل انٹر لنکیجز کے ڈائریکٹر ڈاکٹر عابد شہزاد، پبلک ہیلتھ کے شعبہ کے سربراہ ڈاکٹر نعیم عاصم، سائیکالوجی اینڈ اینتھروپولوجی کے شعبہ جات سے ڈاکٹر معظم درانی اور دیگر معزز شرکاء شامل تھے۔ انتھروپولوجی، سائیکالوجی اور پبلک ہیلتھ کے شعبہ جات کے طلباءوطالبات نے سیشن میں بڑھ چڑھ کر حصہ لیا۔ مقررین نے قانونی آگاہی، صنفی حساسیت، محفوظ نقل مکانی کے راستے اور نوجوانوں کے لیے بین الاقوامی تعلیمی مواقع پر زور دیا۔ ڈاکٹر فاروق احمد نے مہمانوں کا شکریہ ادا کیا اور SHARP کے تعاون کو سراہا۔ انہوں نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ اس تعاون سے علم بشریات کے طلباء کے لیے قابل قدر تحقیق، انٹرن شپ، تربیت اور ملازمت کے مواقع پیدا ہوں گے۔ سیشن کے بعد، سوسائٹی فار ہیومن رائٹس اینڈ پریزنرز اور شعبہ بشریات کے درمیان تحقیق، طلبہ کی انٹرنشپ، تربیتی پروگراموں اور باہمی دلچسپی کے دیگر شعبوں میں تعاون کو مضبوط بنانے کے لیے ایک مفاہمت نامے پر دستخط کیے گئے۔ ایم او یو پر سوسائٹی فار ہیومن رائٹس اینڈ پریزنرز کے ڈاکٹر مدثر سنگھیرا، ڈین فیکلٹی آف سوشل سائنسز پروفیسر روبینہ بھٹی اور شعبہ بشریات کے چیئرپرسن ڈاکٹر فاروق احمد نے دستخط کیے۔ یہ تقریب مستقبل میں تعلیمی تعاون، طلباء کی شمولیت، اور کمیونٹی پر مبنی اقدامات کو مضبوط بنانے کے مشترکہ عزم کے ساتھ اختتام پذیر ہوئی۔
