About Me
Dr. Rashid Hussain is an Assistant Professor (BPS-19) in the Department of Horticultural Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Punjab, Pakistan. With extensive experience in academia, research, administration, and the horticultural industry, he has made significant contributions to teaching, scientific research, and agricultural development.
Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Hussain served as Project Manager at the Cut-flower and Vegetable Production, Research and Training Cell of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur from January 2021 to March 2021, where he coordinated research and training activities aimed at promoting commercial horticulture. He also worked as Assistant Professor at the University of Agriculture, Sub Campus Burewala, during 2019–2020.
From July 2018 to September 2019, Dr. Hussain served as Territory Manager (Faisalabad) at Paragon Chemicals, Burewala, gaining valuable experience in agricultural inputs, extension services, and stakeholder engagement. Earlier, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor under the Interim Placement of Fresh PhDs (IPFP) Program of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, in the Department of Horticultural Sciences, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, where he served from 2017 to 2018.
Dr. Hussain also worked as Manager (Research and Development – Horticulture) at Seyfert Seed Company (Pvt.) Ltd. from 2016 to 2017, contributing to horticultural research, varietal evaluation, and seed development programs. Earlier in his career, he served as a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Horticultural Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, from November 2014 to November 2015, where he assisted in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses while supporting research activities.
During his PhD studies, Dr. Hussain was awarded the prestigious International Research Support Initiative Program (IRSIP) fellowship by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan in 2015. Under this program, he conducted advanced research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA, one of the world's leading research institutions. During his stay, he worked in the internationally renowned Weng Laboratory,(https://wenglab.horticulture.wisc.edu/people/past-lab-members/) where he gained hands-on experience in advanced molecular biology, plant genetics, and horticultural biotechnology, further strengthening his research expertise and international academic exposure.
As a dedicated academician, Dr. Rashid Hussain is actively engaged in teaching a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the fields of Horticulture, Olericulture (Vegetable Science), and Seed Production. He is committed to fostering academic excellence through quality teaching, research, and student mentorship.
Dr. Hussain has successfully supervised numerous B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc. (Hons.), and PhD research scholars, with more than 15 postgraduate students having successfully completed their degrees under his supervision. He is also recognized as an HEC-Approved PhD Supervisor, reflecting his expertise and commitment to advanced research and graduate education.
His research interests have resulted in the publication of more than 100 scholarly contributions, including research papers, review articles, conference abstracts, and extension publications in national and international journals. His research primarily focuses on advancing horticultural sciences through innovative and applied research.
In addition to his scholarly achievements, Dr. Hussain has successfully completed a research project funded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, demonstrating his ability to secure competitive research funding and contribute to the advancement of horticultural research at the national level.
In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, Dr. Rashid Hussain has made significant contributions to the academic administration and institutional development of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He has served and continues to serve in a number of key administrative, academic, and quality assurance roles, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence, student support, institutional governance, and community engagement.
Through these diverse assignments, Dr. Hussain has played an instrumental role in strengthening academic administration, accreditation and quality assurance processes, research coordination, student services, industrial collaboration, departmental outreach, alumni engagement, and institutional capacity building. His continued administrative contributions reflect his dedication to fostering excellence in higher education and supporting the strategic objectives of the University.

As a Principal Investigator completed Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan funded project # 21-1460 entitled “Evaluation of exotic germplasm of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) for salt tolerance potential and mitigation of its adverse effects through plant growth regulator”. Funded by Start-up Research Grant Program (SRGP), Higher Education Commission of Pakistan 2017-18.
The Islamia University of Bahawalpur was established in the year 1975 by upgrading historical institute of the Jamia Abbasia.
