About Me

Assistant Professor of Physics
Institute of Physics (IoP), The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB)
Biography & Background
I am an experimental high-energy physicist working as an Assistant Professor of Physics at the Institute of Physics (IoP), The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB). Prior to joining IUB, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Centre for Physics (NCP) in Islamabad. I completed my graduate studies at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, conducting my research through NCP as a member of the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), CERN, Switzerland.
Research Interests & Current Work
My research focuses on advancing our understanding of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and electroweak symmetry breaking, specifically through the lens of top-quark and Higgs-boson physics. As a member of the CMS Collaboration at CERN, my research group and I contributed to the historic discovery of the Higgs boson. Our work leverages high-energy proton-proton collisions at 13 and 14 TeV—the highest energies ever achieved in a laboratory setting—to generate heavy fundamental particles, probing their precise properties and fundamental interactions to test the boundaries of the Standard Model.
My current research centers on exploring the associated production of the top quark with Higgs and Z bosons to isolate rare coupling signatures. I actively investigate highly complex topologies, including ttH production (specifically looking at Higgs decays into top pairs, Z-gamma, and dimuons) as well as tZ production where the Z boson decays into top pairs alongside related channels.
Methodology & Computational Workflow
My research interests span both high-energy particle physics experiments and phenomenology. To model rare multi-particle final states and evaluate experimental signatures, my group utilizes advanced computational pipelines. We perform matrix element calculation and event generation via MadGraph5_aMC@NLO, apply high-efficiency detector response approximations using Delphes fast simulation, and execute comprehensive detector-level analysis within the MadAnalysis 5 framework. We explore unanswered questions by analyzing high-energy physics detector data, utilizing traditional Cut-and-Count techniques alongside modern machine learning approaches such as Boosted Decision Trees (BDT), TMVA, and Neural Networks.
Teaching Experience
I have taught a wide variety of courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. My teaching portfolio includes:
  • Quantum Mechanics
  • Particle Physics
  • Nuclear Physics
  • Electronics
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Statistical Analysis
  • Applied Physics
Research Supervision & Mentorship
I have a strong track record of mentoring the next generation of physicists, having successfully supervised:
  • 1 PhD student
  • 22 MPhil students
  • More than 50 BS projects
Currently, I have 4 PhD candidates and 4 MPhil students registered under my supervision, along with an ongoing BS project group.
