The Islamia University of Bahawalpur Achieves Quantum Leap in QS Sustainability Rankings, Rising to 847th World-Wide
University records a massive surge in standing, jumping from the 1181-1200 band in 2025 to 847th globally in 2026, cementing its leadership in Knowledge Exchange and Social Impact. IUB has achieved a historic milestone, securing the 847th position globally in the prestigious QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026. This achievement marks a significant ascent from its previous standing in the 1181-1200 band, signaling IUB’s emergence as a global leader in sustainable development, environmental research, and social stewardship. Moreover, IUB has not only improved its global footprint but has also solidified its national standing, ranking 9th in Pakistan and 281st in Asia. IUB’s performance reflects a comprehensive improvement across all major performance indicators. IUB achieved an impressive Overall Score of 57.2, a significant increase from the previous year’s score of 38.5. This surge is a testament to the university's aggressive implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its transition toward a greener, more inclusive campus culture. IUB demonstrated exceptional strength in Social Impact, achieving a category score of 64.9. Within this category, the university distinguished itself as a hub for community connectivity and academic outreach, scoring a stunning 82.2 in Knowledge Exchange. This excellence extends to student and societal welfare, reflected in a Health & Wellbeing score of 74.6, and a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, evidenced by a score of 70.2 in Equality. Furthermore, the university proved its focus on research by achieving an Environmental Research score of 70.1, while simultaneously demonstrating strong, ethical leadership through a Good Governance score of 63.3. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, termed this achievement a "defining moment" for the institution. Expressing his pride in the faculty and administration, he remarked: "This quantum leap in our global ranking—from the 1200s to the top 850—is not just a number; it is a validation of our strategic vision. Our high scores in Knowledge Exchange and Health & Wellbeing demonstrate Islamia University of Bahawalpur's (IUB) strong commitment to serving humanity and the society." Director QEC, Prof. Dr. M. Asadullah Madni, extended his profound appreciation to all Deans, Chairpersons, Faculty members, Administration, and concerned Directorates for their collective ownership of this mission. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of the SDGs Collaboration Centre, Consortium on Climate Change, Sustainability & Conservation (CCSC), CIDS, ORIC, AS&RB, Planning & Development (PND), Enabling Centre, Accessibility Centre, Estate Care and the Green Campus Project. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Asadullah Madni commended the Occupational Safety and Health (OSAH), Directorate of Women Health Care Centre & Maternity Home, and the Medical and Health Division for their pivotal roles in achieving this historic milestone.
