Honourable Prime Minister's Visit to IUB

Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated various projects at Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that he is very happy to see the ongoing research activities at Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Addressing the Farmers Convention at Islamia University of Bahawalpur, the Prime Minister said that he was very happy to know about the ongoing research on cotton and strip intercropping at Jamia Islamia. The Prime Minister inaugurated a world class nursing college at Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The nursing college will not only help in building the capacity of the existing manpower in the field of nursing in the region but also provide employment opportunities to the youth of South Punjab. The Prime Minister also inaugurated a cricket stadium at the Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus of Islamia University of Bahawalpur to promote cricket. He also inaugurated the 2.5 MW solar project. The project is not only capable of meeting the needs of the university but the additional power generated from it will also be provided to MEPCO. The project will benefit the national exchequer to the tune of Rs. 455 million over a period of 25 years. It will not only be a beacon for other institutions but also provide students with the opportunity for practical education and observation at the university. In view of the importance of cotton crop in Bahawalpur division, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the National Cotton Breeding Institute at Islamia University. So far 40% less water, 50% less pesticide use, 35% less gross cost production has been increased by 20% and now 40% less cost 30% production. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Intercropping Research Center where research is being carried out initially to increase soybean and maize production through strip intercropping. The increase in soybean production will help increase farmers' income, reduce imports and make Pakistan more self-sufficient in edible oil. On the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said according to the ranking of Islamia University of Bahawalpur Times Higher Education, it has joined the top 1,000 universities in the world. A photovoltaic solar plant at a cost of Rs 30.4 crore and a cricket stadium and pavilion at a cost of Rs 50 million have been constructed in the university which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister today. Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema and Special Assistant Jamshed Iqbal Cheema also addressed the function. Federal Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Malik Amin Aslam, Advisor Environment, Parliamentary Secretary and MNA Kanwal Shozaib, MNAs, Makhdoom Samiul Hassan Gilani, Farooq Azam Malik, Amir Dogar, Syed Mubeen Ahmed, Zafar Iqbal Warraich, Provincial Ministers Hashim Jawan Bakht, Hussain Jahanian Gardezi, Makhdoom Iftikhar Hussain Gilani, and MPAs, Chaudhry Shafiq, Chaudhry Masood Ahmed, Amir Nawaz Chandio, secretaries, senior officials and farmers were present in large numbers were present on the occasion.
