The state of Bahawalpur was established in 1727 and existed until the merger of the province of Punjab in 1955. This state was a model of Islamic civilization in every respect. The governors of the state of Bahawalpur had a special interest in science and literature. In this regard, they established numerous educational institutions in the state. A link in this chain was the establishment of Jamia Abbasia, a university of Islamic studies in Bahawalpur on the model of Jamia Azhar on June 22, 1925. An institution of a similar nature existed in the state of Hyderabad, Deccan, in the form of Jamia Osmania. But in Jamia Abbasia, English was an additional subject of specialization. After the establishment of One Unit, when the merger of the state of Bahawalpur with West Pakistan, the province of Punjab took place, Jamia Abbasia was given to the Department of Endowments in 1964 and in 1975 it was given the status of Islamia University of Bahawalpur. With the establishment of the university, the establishment of the Department of Urdu and Iqbaliat was approved. With its establishment, practical and research activities began here. This department has rendered numerous services in the academic, research, creative and critical fields till date. 2025 is the Golden Jubilee year of the Urdu Department, which is being celebrated in a grand manner. In this regard, the Golden Jubilee celebrations were formally started. In his message, Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, appreciated the wonderful traditions of the Department of Urdu and Iqbaliat and expressed his best wishes for its further development and promotion. In the inaugural ceremony, former Chairman of the Department of Urdu and Iqbaliat, Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ahmed, Prof. Dr. Aqila Shaheen and Prof. Dr. Rubina Rafiq attended as special guests and informed the audience about the wonderful academic tradition of the department. The duties of the director were performed by Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali. Prof. Dr. Syed Amir Sohail, Head of the Department of Urdu and Iqbaliat and Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages, mentioned the excellent academic journey of the department over fifty years and also informed the guests about the action plan prepared for the further development of the Urdu department. Finally, he thanked all the guests and said that this series of Golden Jubilee celebrations will continue till December 31 of this year.

شعبہ اردو واقبالیات اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کی گولڈن جوبلی تقریبات کا آغاز۔
ریاست بہاولپور 1727ء میں قائم ہوئی اور 1955ء میں صوبہ پنجاب کے ادغام تک قائم رہی۔ یہ ریاست ہر اعتبار سے اسلامی تہذیب کا نمونہ رہی۔ والیانِ ریاست بہاولپور کو علم و ادب سے خاص لگاؤ رہا۔ اس سلسلے میں انہوں نے ریاست میں بے شمار تعلیمی ادارے قائم کیے۔ اسی سلسلے کی ایک کڑی 22 جون 1925ء کو جامعہ ازھر کی طرز پر بہاولپور میں علومِ اسلامیہ کی ایک یونیورسٹی جامعہ عباسیہ کا قیام ہے۔ اسی طرز کا ایک ادارہ ریاست حیدر آباد دکن میں جامعہ عثمانیہ کی صورت میں موجود تھا۔ لیکن جامعہ عباسیہ میں انگریزی کو اضافی مضمون کی تخصص حاصل تھی۔ ون یونٹ کے قیام کے بعد جب ریاست بہاولپور کا ادغام مغربی پاکستان، صوبہ پنجاب کے ساتھ عمل میں آیا تو 1964ء میں جامعہ عباسیہ کو محکمہ اوقاف کی تحویل میں دیا گیا اور 1975ء میں اسے اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور کا درجہ ملا۔ یونیورسٹی کے قیام کے ساتھ ہی یہاں شعبہ اردو و اقبالیات کے قیام کی منظوری دی گئی۔ اس کے قیام کے ساتھ ہی یہاں عملی و تحقیقی سرگرمیوں کا آغاز ہوگیا۔ اس شعبے نے آج تک علمی، تحقیقی، تخلیقی اور تنقیدی میدان میں بے شمار خدمات سر انجام دیں ہیں۔ 2025ء شعبہ اردو کا گولڈن جوبلی سال ہے جسے بھر پور طریقے سے منایا جارہا ہے۔ اس سلسلے میں گولڈن جوبلی تقریبات کا باقاعدہ آغاز کیا گیا۔وائس چانسلر اسلامیہ یونیورسٹی بہاولپور پروفیسر ڈاکٹر محمد کامران نے اپنے پیغام میں شعبہ اردو و اقبالیات کی شاندار روایات کو سراہتے ہوئے اس کی مزید ترقی و ترویج کے لیے نیک خواہشات کا اظہار کیا۔ افتتاحی تقریب میں شعبہ اردو و اقبالیات کے سابقہ صدرنشین پروفیسر ڈاکٹر شفیق احمد، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر عقیلہ شاہین اور پروفیسر ڈاکٹر روبینہ رفیق نے بطور مہمانان خصوصی شرکت اور حاضرین کو شعبے کی شاندار علمی روایت سے آگاہ کیا۔ نظامت کے فرائض پروفیسر ڈاکٹر لیاقت علی نے انجام دیئے۔ صدر شعبہ اردو و اقبالیات اور ڈین فیکلٹی آف آرٹس اینڈ لینگویجز پروفیسر ڈاکٹر سید عامر سہیل نے شعبے کی پچاس سال کی بہترین علمی سفر کے تذکرے کے ساتھ، شعبہ اردو کی مزید ترقی کے لیے تیار کردہ لائحہ عمل سے بھی مہمانوں کو آگاہ کیا آخر میں انہوں نے سب مہمانوں کا شکریہ ادا کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ گولڈن جوبلی تقریبات کا یہ سلسلہ رواں سال 31 دسمبر تک جاری رہے گا۔
