About Us
The Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community service in the field of veterinary parasitology. The Department provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical training in parasitic diseases affecting livestock, companion animals, poultry, and other hosts, with particular emphasis on parasites of veterinary and zoonotic importance. Our academic and research activities encompass epidemiology, parasite biology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, molecular characterization, host–parasite interactions, immunology, and prevention and control of parasitic diseases. The Department is equipped with modern laboratory facilities and diagnostic and molecular approaches to support contemporary research and postgraduate training. Through interdisciplinary collaborations and engagement with livestock, veterinary, and research sectors, the Department contributes to improving animal health, productivity, food safety, and public health in Pakistan and beyond.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Parasitology is to provide high-quality education, innovative research, and practical training in veterinary parasitology while addressing important parasitic diseases affecting animals and public health. The Department is committed to developing competent, ethical, and research-oriented veterinarians and scientists through modern teaching methodologies, hands-on laboratory training, and exposure to contemporary diagnostic and molecular techniques. Our research mission focuses on understanding parasite epidemiology, biology, pathogenesis, host–parasite interactions, molecular diversity, and immune responses, with the ultimate goal of developing improved diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and control strategies. The Department promotes interdisciplinary and national and international collaborations to translate scientific knowledge into practical solutions for livestock health, sustainable animal production, food security, and the control of zoonotic parasitic diseases.

The Department of Parasitology aspires to become a leading center of excellence in Veterinary Parasitology, Molecular Parasitology, and parasite-related research in Pakistan and the wider region. We envision a scientifically vibrant department recognized for high-quality education, innovative research, advanced diagnostics, and impactful solutions to emerging and neglected parasitic diseases. Our vision is to develop a strong generation of veterinarians, researchers, and postgraduate scholars equipped with modern scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and practical skills to address current and future challenges in animal and public health. We aim to strengthen national and international research collaborations, promote interdisciplinary approaches, and advance molecular, immunological, genomic, proteomic, and translational research. Through these efforts, the Department seeks to contribute substantially to sustainable livestock production, disease prevention and control, food security, and the One Health agenda.
