The Department of Soil Science is working under the umbrella of Faculty of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences. The University College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (UCA&ES) was established in 2005 and is the integral constituent of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and later UCA&ES is converted to Faculty of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (FA&ES). First time, major subject “Soil Science” for the degree program of B.Sc Hons. Agriculture was offered to the session 2006-10. Department of Soil Science was established in 2013. The purpose was to produce graduates who are capable to contribute in the development of agriculture of the Southern Punjab where farmers are facing problem of acute shortage of rain and irrigation water.
The Department of Soil Science is offering following degree programs
1) BSc. Hons. Agriculture in Soil Science
2) MSc. Hons. Soil Science
3)PhD in Soil Science.
Students Society Of Soil Scientist (SSOSS)
The department is focusing on a wide range of research areas such as soil fertility and plant nutrition, soil microbiology and biotechnology, soil physics, soil salinity and soil chemistry. The main emphasis is given to the farmer-oriented problems regarding soil, water and environmental health and problems associated to different crops and advisory services to the farmers. Department of Soil Science have well established laboratories and all the degree programs are approved from HEC and council. The students have an excellent facility for field experimentation in the Agricultural Research Farm at the walking distance from the department. The department draws its strength through cooperation and coordination with other agricultural research/ teaching institutes. Many graduates and postgraduate students have completed their degree and are serving in various.
The faculty strives to provide an environment in which students can reach their potential as individuals and as professionals. We strive for not only growth in factual knowledge and research skills but also a broader intellectual growth. The funded research projects by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan are also in the credit of our faculty. The faculty is also committed to develop the technologies and methodologies of insect pest control which are economically feasible, environmentally safe and in easy access to the public. The faculty members have published many scientific research papers, books, conference papers at national and international level. The faculty members are highly qualified and have research experience in specialized area of soil and environmental sciences from different countries. All the faculty members have PhD degree. The students are welcome to join the research-oriented department for their future career with excellent theoretical as well as practical training in the field of Soil Science.
