The Department of Plant Pathology is working under the umbrella of Faculty of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences. The University College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (UCA&ES) was established in 2005 and is the integral constituent of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and later UCA&ES is converted to Faculty of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences (FA&ES). First time, major subject “Plant Pathology” for the degree program of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture was offered to the session 2013-17. Department of Plant Pathology was established in 2020. The purpose was to produce graduates who are capable to contribute in the development of agriculture of the Southern Punjab where farmers are facing problems of Crop/Plant disease identification and their management.

The department is focusing on a wide range of research areas such as Phyto Bacteriology, Mycology, Plant Virology, Plant Nematology, Plant Disease Management, Plant Microbe Interaction and Disease Forecasting. The main emphasis is given to the farmer-oriented problems regarding Plant Disease Identification, Disease Management, Environmental Health and problems associated to different crops and advisory services to the farmers. Department of Plant Pathology has well established laboratories and all the degree programs are approved from University Statuary Bodies and council. The Department of Plant Pathology is Accredited form National Agricultural Education Accreditation Council, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC). The students have an excellent facility for field experiments at Agricultural Research Farm nearby the Department. The Department draws its strength through cooperation and coordination with other agricultural research/ teaching institutes. Many graduate students have completed their degrees and are serving in various Institutes and Development Sectors at various positions.
The faculty strives to provide an environment in which students can reach their potential as individuals and as professionals. We strive for not only growth in factual knowledge and research skills but also a broader intellectual growth. The funded research projects by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan are also in the credit of our faculty. The faculty is also committed to develop the technologies and methodologies of insect pest and disease control which are economically feasible, environmentally safe and in easy access to the public. The faculty members have published many scientific research papers, books, conference papers at National and International level. The faculty members are highly qualified and have research experience in specialized area of Plant Pathology from different countries. More than 80% faculty members have PhD degree. The students are welcome to join the research-oriented department for their future career with excellent theoretical as well as practical training in the field of Plant Pathology.
