The gradual shift of Pakistan to agriculture and livestock-based economy has resulted in the inevitable need of new academic institutes in the country in order to cater the relevant demands. Resultantly, University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was established in 2006 as a constituent college of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur with the objective of attaining a substantial skillful manpower in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. In the year 2020, University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was upgraded into Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences having 13 functional departments viz. Department of Anatomy and Histology, Department of Physiology, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Department of Microbiology, Department of Pathology, Department of Parasitology, Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Department of Theriogenology, Department of Animal Nutrition, Department of Livestock Management, Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, and Department of Poultry Science. The Faculty has successfully completed fourteen years of its academic advent and nine batches of veterinary graduates have been conferred the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
At present, four undergraduate degree programs, i.e., Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), BS Animal Sciences, BS Applied Microbiology and BS Physiology, and one diploma program, i.e., Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) are being offered by the faculty. The curricula and syllabi of all programs are kept continuously updated in accordance with national and international standards, Higher Education Commission (HEC), and Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) where applicable. The Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has well-trained and highly qualified faculty members who are committed to the provision of excellence in the fields of veterinary and animal sciences. Furthermore, the incumbent students are given on-hand training and practical knowledge in well-equipped laboratories, livestock, camel and poultry farms, veterinary ambulatory service and teaching hospital. Our graduates are playing a substantial role in public and private sectors such as veterinary hospitals, dispensaries and clinics, diagnostic laboratories, teaching and research institutes, livestock, dairy and poultry farms, meat and dairy industry, abattoirs, hatcheries, livestock and poultry feed mills, and wool, leather and fiber industry.
