Department of Pakistan Studies

The Department of Pakistan Studies came into existence as a result of bifurcation of the Department of History and Pakistan Studies on 1st March 2012 with keen interest of the then Vice Chancellor to start a separate research and teachings towards our country and this region.
Presently,
the faculty of the department comprises of, one Professor, two Associate Professor, four Assistant Professors and six Lecturers. The Department has Eight PhDs and five MPhil faculty members who are completing their PhD".
The subject of Pakistan Studies is interdisciplinary and encompasses various aspects of Pakistan's history and culture. The main purpose of the discipline is to provide an in-depth understanding of Pakistan. The Programs therefore offers courses consisting of History, Politics, Geography, Economics, Foreign Relations, Sociology and Literature of Pakistan. The Department offers teaching and research facilities for BS, MPhil and PhD scholars on regular basis.
Furthermore, realizing the importance of the subject, the University is also seriously planning to upgrade the department to the status of Centre of Pakistan Studies. Under this center, a research chair named as Sadiq chair in memory of the founder of the University and the last ruler of the defunct Bahawalpur state which has been approved by the Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob.
The department is keen to develop a well-equipped Multi-Media and computer lab with latest equipment to provide better facilities of learning to the students and the faculty.
Department of Pakistan studies holds different seminars, webinars, workshops and symposiums on current issues and on historical days like Pakistan day, Lahore Resolution, Quaid and Iqbal day, Kashmir Solidarity Day as well as death anniversary of Late Nawab of Bahawalpur Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V to highlight the great services and contributions of our Great leaders.
