The Department of Pakistan Studies came into existence as a result of bifurcation of the Department of History and Pakistan Studies on 1st March 2012 with keen interest of honourable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar to start a separate research and teachings to wards our country and this region. Dr. Muhammad Akbar Malik has the honour to become the founder chairman of the department.
Presently, the faculty of the department comprises on one Associate professor, four assistant professors. The department has three PhD, one M. Phil faculty members, while one faculty member is completing his PhD.
The subject of Pakistan Studies is interdisciplinary and encompasses various aspects of Pakistans history and culture. The main purpose of the discipline is to provide an in-depth understanding of Pakistan. The Programme therefore offers courses consisting of History, Politics, Geography, Economics, Foreign Relations, Sociology and Literature of Pakistan. The Department offers teaching and research facilities for M.A. , M.Phil and Ph.D. Scholars on regular basis. While the Department has taken initiative to start M.Phil Pakistan Studies diastance learning.
Furthermore, realizing the importance of the subject, the University is also seriously planning to upgrade the department to the status of Centre of Pakistan Studies. Under this centre a research chair named as Sadiq chair in memory of founder of the University and the last ruler of the defunct Bahawalpur state will be established.
The department is keen to develop a well equipped Multi Media and Computer Laboratory with latest equipment to provide better facilities of learning to the students and the faculty.
