Department of Livestock Management

Pakistan being an agricultural country, livestock plays a significant role by contributing 11 percent to the Gross Domestic Product of the country and engaging more than 35 million people in this sector. Keeping in mind the importance of and exploring and utilizing the full potential of livestock, the department of Livestock Management was established as the University College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur was upgraded into the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The purpose is to prepare students with hands-on knowledge and expertise in livestock farming and equip them with the latest skills of establishing, maintaining and furnishing animal production activities.

The department is currently engaging students of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and Livestock Assistant Diploma. The infrastructure of the department includes a laboratory, a livestock farm (University Livestock Farm), and a fodder cultivation area. The University Livestock Farm not only serves as the demonstration farm for under-graduate students but also as a show-case for ruminant species originating locally in the Southern Punjab. Collaboration with the local livestock farms is also an asset to help students to develop understanding within a real-life context.
