Bahawalpur ( ): Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has said that Bahawalpur has the capacity to become an international tourist resort due to its rich cultural heritage. All the relevant institutions should initiate joint efforts to promote tourism in Bahawalpur. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is willing to collaborate with public and private sector for this purpose. The Vice Chancellor was exchanging views with Saad Sikandar Khan, Managing Director, Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) who called on him at his office in Abbasia Campus. The Vice Chancellor added that geographical variation of this region can attract tourists from around the world, because Bahawalpur has diversified landscape of a vast desert on one side and five great rivers of Pakistan merge on the other side. The ancient city of Uch Sharif was one of the oldest seats of Islamic Learning and Cholistan desert has a glorious past of Hakra Valley civilization which is scattered throughout the desert in the form of reminiscent. It is need of the hour to preserve the unique flora and fauna of the area with special focus on species on the verge of extinction. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is one of the leading and rapidly growing institutions of higher learning collaborating with national and international organizations. On this occasion, the prospects of joint ventures to boost tourism and hospitality industry in the region were also discussed and both institutions agreed to jointly establish a hotel management and tourism school in Bahawalpur on the lines of five similar institutions already functioning in Punjab under the supervision of TDCP. |
