Bahawalpur ( ): In a memorable ceremony last evening laptops were distributed among students of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and various colleges of Bahawalpur division under Phase-II, E-Youth Initiative of the Chief Minister Punjab. The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur while the chief guest was Punjab Minister for Prisons Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channer guest of honor. On this occasion, 1395 students of final evening classes of the IUB and 191 students of various colleges of Bahawalpur Division were awarded laptops. On this occasion, the Main Auditorium of IUB was filled to the capacity with students and faculty. High ranking district and divisional administrative officials, political elite and local dignitaries were also present in the ceremony. The colleges included Govt. SE College Bahawalpur, Govt. Post Graduate College Bahawalpur, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur; Govt. RID College Haroonabad, Govt. Post Graduate College Khanpur, Govt. Post Graduate College for Women Bahawalpur and Shaikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan. On this occasion, the chief guest of the ceremony Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channer, Provincial Minister for Prisons in his exclusive address said that Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in his first speech in Punjab Assembly had declared education as his top most priority and this is the very reason that Punjab Government has been emphasizing its focus on educational sector. The youth is being adorned with latest technology, especially information technology. The Chief Minister during his visit to Bahawalpur in February last had distributed thousands of laptops among the students of IUB and colleges of Bahawalpur division. He advised the students to patronize those students who are needy and deserving students of their alma mater that after joining professional world, when they have got strong footings in their practical life. He ensured that Punjab government is ready to extend help and co-operation to every student. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur congratulated the students for getting free laptops and urged them to give proof of their responsible attitude as Pakistani and to devote their energies only for achieving knowledge by displaying unity and discipline. He thanked the Punjab government for awarding laptops to the students of the IUB. He also added that government of Punjab and Higher Education Commission have been extending full co-operation in development projects for which the faculty and students of the University are grateful. The Vice Chancellor also gave account of his recent visit to the United States of America for participating in the World Presidential Enclave and said that he was greatly honored to be the sole representative of the Islamic world in the congregation. He further said that the world has become global village due to getting closer and this is the reason that when he interacted with students of American universities, he was amazed to observe that they were already well aware about the IUB. Hence it means that the eyesight of the whole world is focused on Pakistan, so we will have to get our potential recognized by the world fraternity. The IUB has been leading the front ranking universities of Pakistan and its most recent precedence is the setup of Inter University Consortium. The recent efforts of IUB for the progress of research and academic fields within the university and its links with the institutions of higher education were highly appreciated in the assembly of 300 Vice Chancellors relating to member countries of the Organization of Islamic Countries at Islamabad recently and IUB received excellent response from the delegates. In the laptops distribution ceremony Director Colleges Bahawalpur Division, Prof. Dr. Mushtaq Javed, local industrialist, Rana Muhammad Khalid, media representatives, university faculty and Principals of relevant colleges were also present.
