74th death anniversary of our National Poet, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal was observed under the auspices of the Department of History, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The speakers highlighted the great services rendered by Allama Muhammad Iqbal and said that Iqbal is regarded as one of the most dynamic and inspiring figures, who created the awareness of a separate nation among the Muslims of Indo Pak subcontinent for getting rid of the chains of slavery. The pages of history are glowing with the wisdom, vision, reconciliatory attitude and far-sightedness of Iqbal besides his sincerity. The Vice Chancellor IUB Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar in his exclusive message for the ceremony said that Allama Iqbal has imparted the ethical and political awareness based on Islamic teachings. The young generation of today must get themselves adorned with spiritual and moral training and make their civilization and cultural heritage as their basis for achieving development. We must feel proud of this rich cultural heritage and implement this factor for the building of a bright future. He further emphasized that they should not only study Iqbal’s poetry but also make their lives harmonious with his philosophy. They should rely on themselves instead of others and ensure the development in the academic and political fields through concerted efforts. He also advised them to develop the characteristics of Iqbal’s Shaheen and holy warrior in themselves. Chairman History Department Dr. Shahid Hassan Rizvi said that Iqbal gave the Islamic identity to the Muslims of Indo Pak. Hence we must initiate efforts to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare democratic state according to the ideology of Hazrat Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Senior faculty member Dr. Abdul Razzaq Shahid also spoke on the occasion. The students of the department rendered the verses of Allama Iqbal during the exclusive ceremony. |
