Bahawalpur ( ): The cotton is the major crop of our country and highly important for our economy so efforts are underway to get maximum benefit from this crop to improve our economy hence special attention is needed for more research in the better output of cotton crop while the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has started comprehensive research programme in this field to boost-up the cotton production for national cause.
The Vice-Chancellor, Islamia University, Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar remarked these views while talking to a delegation of the dignitaries of Bahawalpur city which included Haji Zulfiqar Ali (MPA), former Provincial Minister for Livestock, Mumtaz Khan Manais, eminent social and political figure of the area, Malik Habibullah Bhutta and others during their visit to the Cotton Breeding Farm of the IUB here today.
He said that special budget had been allocated for this research project on cotton to get better results.
The Director, Cotton Breeding Project, IUB, informed the delegation about the new varieties of cotton, MM-58 and IUB-222 which were introduced at the university and had been producing encouraging results as these verities could face the hard climatic conditions and virus quite effectively without any affect and started production after 70 days and these verities had received appreciable response at national level.
The delegation highly appreciated it and congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, IUB, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar over this success for the improvement of national economy and cotton crop in this area.
The Principal, IUB Agriculture College, Dr. Moazam Jamil and the Director Research, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asghar Hashmi were also present on the occasion. |
