Bahawalpur ( ): The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Al Sadiq Desert Welfare Organization Bahawalpur signed an MoU of mutual collaboration in an exclusive ceremony. Under this agreement both the institutions will make efforts for the socio-economic development of Cholistan. Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Muhammad Khan Khichi was the chief guest of the ceremony. Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar and President Al Sadiq Desert Welfare Organization Bahawalpur, Riaz Ahmed Baloch signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. The Vice Chancellor in his address on this occasion said that the university intends to create an environment of mutual co-operation for the improvement of this underdeveloped region. Al Sadiq Desert Welfare Organization as an initial step will launch a research project on water resources of Cholistan while the second project will be based on research about the female cotton-pickers. He added that universities are not confined to four-walled boundaries but their jurisdiction is extended in the region where these are located. Vice Chancellor welcomed Commissioner Bahawalpur for attending a ceremony in IUB for the first time. The Commissioner Bahawalpur Division, Muhammad Khan Khichi said that the collaboration of university with local social and cultural organizations will ultimately prove beneficial for improving overall socio-economic situation of the area. IUB can plan development projects of general health, education, sweet water supply and alleviation of poverty. President Al Sadiq Desert Welfare Organization, Riaz Ahmed Baloch declared the MoU with IUB as an honor for his organization and gave details about social and cultural services being extended by his institution in Cholistan. At the end of ceremony, Vice Chancellor, IUB Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar presented a souvenir shield to Commissioner Muhammad Khan Khichi. Senior faculty members, representatives of Cholistani community and media were also present on the occasion. |
