Bahawalpur (                   ) : Punjab Education Minister, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that it is mandatory to work for the promotion of local culture and civilization as peace always prevails in the society through positive traditions. He was expressing his views in a seminar on social history of Cholistan “Baithak” jointly organized by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Cholistan Development Council at main auditorium Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus. Provincial Education Minister further said that education sector in our country needs improvement through effective measures, as only those nations are reaping the benefits of development that are achieving their set goals of education. This sector needs abundant financial resources to be provided by the government. The private sector has been playing a significant role in the promotion of education in Pakistan but there is no check and balance on this sector. Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman said that Government of the Punjab is establishing district education authorities all over the province and the legislation for this purpose has also been documented. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur said that IUB will be made a frontline international university and to achieve this objective the university is implementing a very effective strategy for improving its financial resources. There is no dearth of talent in Pakistan but it needs proper grooming and encouragement to prosper in a conducive environment. The Vice Chancellor said that efforts are being initiated by IUB to preserve and promote local cultural heritage with the collaboration of local organizations; “Cholistan Baithak” is a part of these activities. Furthermore, it is a virtuous act to revitalize the local cultural heritage and traditional values. The Vice Chancellor said that he was very keen to revive Bahawalpur’s status of a city of knowledge. Earlier, Director Cholistan Development Council, Farooq Ahmed Khan also expressed his views on this occasion and said that Cholistan Development Council has been collaborating with the people and organizations from different walks of life for the protection of peace, democracy, culture, human rights  and especially the rights of women. The main objective of Cholistan Baithak is to restore the centuries old traditions, when the community used to resolve their disputes in “Baithak” and would live a peaceful and serene life. At present our society requires the promotion of mutual peace and harmony. A model farmer of potato from Okara, Maqsood Ahmed Jatt also briefed about his efforts and hard work for harvesting a record yield of potato crop. He said that we can address the problem of shortage of food items by growing potato crop, which gives maximum output with minimum application of agricultural inputs.
