A seminar and a walk was held at the Abbasia Campus, Islamia University, Bahawalpur to create awareness about dengue and preventive measures to control this virus. The seminar and walk was conducted on the directive of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the Punjab government’s programme for anti-dengue campaign to save people from this virus and disease. The Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Muhammad Usman Cheema in his address at the seminar informed about the symptoms and preventive measures from dengue and said that necessary measures should be adopted to improve the sanitation conditions and water should not be allowed to stay long at a spot and water for domestic use should not be kept open and spray should be conducted every week in the houses and all localities of the city to kill the mosquitoes .Efforts should be made to control the growth of mosquitoes spreading this virus. He said that the initial symptom of Dengue were high fever, pain in body, loss of appetite, body color starts to become yellow, severe pain inside the eyes, head and belly and the appearance of spots on the body like measles so in this condition one should immediately approach the qualified physicians for early treatment while Paracetamol tablets were the best initial treatment, use of juices, milk and soup besides normal diet as well as complete rest. He said that net, mosquito killing coils, lotions should be used as a safety /preventive measure from dengue. He disclosed that the dengue fever had been affecting around 50 to 100 million people in 110 countries of the world every year and about 10 to 12 thousand patients of dengue virus become victim of it every year so we will have to focus on preventive measures and necessary treatment at the early stage to eradicate this disease from our country. The Registrar, IUB, Muhammad Ali Walana, Prof. Dr. Faiz-ul-Hassan Nasim, Prof. Dr. Mrs. Razia Mussarat, Prof. Dr. Shahid Naveed, Dr. Ejaz Rana and other faculty members and university staff besides a number of students attended the seminar and walk. Literature and posters about the anti-dengue preventive measures were distributed among the participants and general public to create awareness about this virus and diseases.
