The Islamia
University of Bahawalpur has established a Flood
Relief Cell in consultation with the Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan, Government of the Punjab,
local government with the collaboration of the
German Organization Senior Experts Service (SES)
and local experts for the rehabilitation of flood
affectees. A German medical team is expected to
reach the IUB during the first week of October
2010 to establish medical camps along with the
IUB medical team in the flood affected villages
of Rahim Yar Khan District. The Vice Chancellor,
the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr.
Muhammad Mukhtar disclosed this while chairing
a meeting of the IUB Flood Relief Cell attended
by the Deans, Medical doctors and the German Scholar
Mr. Hartmut Wellerdt. Dr. Altaf Hussain, Medical
Superitendent, Bahawal Victoria Hospital attended
the meeting as a special guest. Mr. Hartmut Wellerdt,
the Visiting German Professor to the IUB gave
a detailed briefing on the arrival of the German
medical team in Bahawalpur and the provision of
medicines from Germany. Mr. Hartmut has been given
an assignment by the German Organization SES to
perform a needful analysis of the medical requirements
in the flood affected areas to cure the prevailing
diseases and control the expected epidemics. It
was decided that initially one medical camp would
be established in the selected village with a
team of a German and a local doctor, the IUB will
provide Para-medical staff and transportation
for this purpose. The Medical Superintendent,
Bahawal Victoria Hospital will provide technical
expertise in the form of a detailed list of the
medicines, medical equipments and other necessary
items to establish these medical camps. The Vice
Chancellor also directed to administer all the
flood relief activities in close liaison with
the local and the provincial governments. |
