IT has become an inherent and
indispensable component of teaching, research, and campus life.
Realizing the importance of Information & Technology. Directorate
of IT has been established under the direct supervision of the Vice
Chancellor. The head of Directorate of IT is Director IT who is
responsible and Incharge of all the IT matters of five campuses
including three campuses at Bahawalpur and two sub campuses at Rahim
Yar khan and Bahawalnagar.

Scope of Functions |
| |
1. Directorate of IT is formulating
strategic planning and management of IT across the University, including
all infrastructure, user support services and core enterprise applications.
2. It provides technology solutions for better education management,
thereby leveraging IT for efficient management of academic problems.
3. Provides a spectrum of campus-wide services, including academic
technology support, administrative computing services, networking,
information security, data centre operations, systems management,
applications services, including user support, training and outreach.
4. To ensure that arrangements are in place for the provision of
essential, accurate, up to date information about the Departments.
5. Reviews and advises on purchases of all hardware, software, and
automation-related services.
6. Reports on the status and progress of automation projects and
operations, and makes recommendations for modifications of automation
systems as needed.
7. Provision of computers, laptops, printers, multimedia and other
IT related latest equipment to management, faculty and scholars.
8. Develops and manages IT budgets. Hires and manages IT staff,
determine is capital improvements.

Projects and initiatives under the supervision of Deputy
Director IT: |

| |
i. Campus Management solution (CMS)
The HEC has initiated a project named as Campus Management Solution
to make universities world class center of education, research
and development. This Project automates majority of task that
are required for proper functioning of the university. Deputy
Director IT (Project Director CMS) and his C.M.S team are working
with Techlogix team to execute the project under the kind supervision
of Worthy Vice Chancellor. The project has been completed and
some of the main modules have already been implemented.
ii.Networking
A. Provision and installation of networking to more faculties
and Departments.
B. High speed internet provided to main campus and sub campuses
of Rahim Yar khan and Bahawalnager.
C. Bandwidth increased up to 14 Mbps from 2 Mbps for more then
4000 nodes.
D. Wireless Networking is being done in different locations.
E. Managing the delivery of information technology services
including web, email, network storage, software and hardware
updates and backup and recovery services.
iii. Computer Labs
Directorate of IT has 25 computer labs equipped with latest
PC's multimedia and internet facility. All Labs are fully furnished
and air-conditioned. Basic aim of these Labs is to carry out
Research across a broad range of subjects and facilitate the
students with Modern IT related equipment.
iv. Outsourcing Project (IUB I.T Help
Desk Support)
In order to provide reliable IT infrastructure IUB in collaboration
with Global Business Systems has established helpdesk Support
for the University. Establishment of IT helpdesk Support Services
has helped University & its employees to;
i. Focus on core areas of their responsibility.
ii. Improvement of IT related work environment.
iii. Increased output through minimizing the down time of any
systems at the university.
iv. 100% availability of IT infrastructure at each campus of the
University.
Role of IT Helpdesk in IUB
Global Business System is successfully providing its services
to the university in various fields;
· Maintenance of university IT infrastructure which includes
hardware & software both.
· Consultancy services in procuring IT hardware.
· Networking support for LAN & Internet.
Operations & Inventory management
GBS after being affiliated with the university has proved itself
for providing prompt & timely services in keeping the IT infrastructure
of the University 100% operational.
