A three members
delegation from Canadian High Commission, Islamabad called on the
Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Prof. Dr.
Belal A. Khan at his residence in Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus today.
The members of delegation included Ms. Robin Wettlaufer, First Secretary
General Relations, Mr. Salman Abdur Rahman, Department of Foreign
Affairs and Int'l Trade, Mr. Mubashir Akram, Political Analyst &
General Relations while Shahzad Ahmed Khalid, Deputy Registrar Public
Affairs and Ms. Hina Aftab, Staff Officer were also present on the
occasion.
The Vice Chancellor said that people of Southern Punjab are moderate,
peace loving and tolerant. He said that the students of IUB are
intelligent and capable enough to compete academically both on national
and international level. This is the reason today the IUB has gained
a unique position in the world of academia. Today, the IUB has 78
academic disciplines equipped with the latest state of the art laborites
and other facilities. Presently university has 13,000 students and
585 faculty members. The Center of Excellence in Islamic Studies
is renowned Internationally for producing research scholars in Hadith
& Seerah and comparative religion. The university conducted
7 international conferences during last four years and among which
four were on the Seerat of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Faculty of Pharmacy
producing professionals in pharmacy, Homeopathy and Eastern Medicines.
Currently, university offering 17 Ph.D programs. On this occasion
Vice Chancellor requested to send retired faculty members from Canadian
universities to serve in IUB as visiting faculty members.
