1. A meeting was held
at Vice Chancellor's office to discuss the unpleasant
events of June 2nd, 2009 at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus
created by some ATI activists who forced and motivated
University students to take law in their hands. This
caused clash between the student and security guards
and damage to the University property. The meeting was
chaired by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Belal A. Khan
while Prof. Dr. M. Latif Mirza, Senior Faculty Member,
Prof. Dr. M. Moazzam, Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof.
Dr. Najeeb-ud-Din Jamal, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof.
Dr. Saleem Tariq Khan, Dean, Faculty of Islamic Learning,
Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy,
Prof. Dr. Abdul Latif, Chairman, Department of Management
Sciences, Prof. Dr. Shahid Naveed, Chairman, Department
of Computer Science & IT, Prof. Dr. Shamsul Basar,
DSA, Mr. Shahid Zia Cheema, Director Planning &
Development, Maj. (R) Saqib Aziz, Chief Warden, Mr.
Mansoor Ahmad Bajwa, Controller Examination, Mr. Muhammad
Ishtiaq, Registrar, Mr. Shahzad Ahmed Khalid, PRO attended
the meeting.
2. In order to diffuse the situation & bring
normality to the academic environment It was unanimously
decided to suspend academic activities for three days.
This would help control the volatile situation and
to prevent further loss and violence. Students were
gives the option to stay in the hostels or go to the
homes for a long weekend while all the teachers and
administrative employees were acquired to perform
their duties as usual.
3. Many students opted to go to their homes and use
the period as final exams preparation period to start
on 8th June, 2009. Special arrangements were made
to transport them to local bus stands and railway
station. Meanwhile special security measures have
been taken to ensure safety and protection of students
preferring to stay at hostels.
4. Some ATI activists tried to hijack the buses which
were transporting students to city at the One Unit
Chowk yesterday. Chief Security Officer was asked
to arrange for local police in the campus and at One
Unit Chowk so that any mishap may be dealt with.
5. The names of 16 miscreant students involved in
the incident have been identified and action is being
taken against these culprits. Chairman CIM, has been
directed to take actions against those involved in
the incident. He has been made aware that no one will
be allowed to take law in their own hands.
6. Registrar, Muhammad Ishtiaq has been directed
to call parents and HoDs of all those students who
got involved in violence and other anti-university
activities to ask the parents to restrain their children
otherwise consequences will follow.
7. Universities otherwise open and the buses are
being kept operational till 9.00 A.M. from Abbasia
Campus to Baghdad-ul-Jadeed campus to transport employees
between the campuses and facilitate students residing
at hostels.
8. With the above steps taken, calm has prevailed
in the university, and students have started prepare
for the final semesters exam, main concern of the
99.99% students right now.
