The
Governor Punjab Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Maqbool
has said that the Universities are not merely
a collection of buildings or enormous member
of students but they build up future nations
and to actieve this factor, the teacher
must become a role model, as the Islamia
University of Bahawalpur has emerged as
the glorying example for other universities
to follow in a short span of time. This
university has achieved glories in curricular
and co-curricular activities and competed
for top slot with the best of universities
in Pakistan.
He was addressing the audience of the convocation
2008 of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur
at the Main Auditorium of Baghdad ul Jadeed
campus today.
He further said that the recent success
story of IUB is self explanatory about the
rapid development going on in the University
and under the dynamic leadership of the
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Belal A. Khan,
an enlightened, educated, tolerant future
generation is being groomed with a hope
that they would continue to maintain highest
standards of excellence, ethics end to terrorism
and focus on educational activities only.
The Governor said that research is the base
of development in all sectors of life. The
teachers need to publish their research
papers in reputed international journals
and must impart to their students knowledge
about the current events around the globe.
They must groom students as a global product
to be attracted by the multi national companies
in Middle East Europe and America. The students
must possess the exclusive knowledge of
their subject.
He appreciated the rapid progress of IUB
and said that IUB is making a difference
and he was always keen to visit this great
institution every time he gets a chance;
because the students of this region have
a lot of patience and resilience. He has
also personally made efforts to provide
more funds from HEC and Govt. of Punjab.
A sports Complex is underway with a grant
of 15 Million Rupees funds from Punjab Govt.
Referning to the President Musharraf's govt.
focus on education he said that IUB has
full support of the govt. and the President
is very much enthersiatic about this fact
and has strived to advance the segment of
higher education.
Earlier Vice Chancellor IUB Prof. Dr. Belal
A. Khan in his welcome address expressed
his gratitude to the distinguished guest
and congratulated the students for getting
approval of their hard work in the form
of degrees.
He said that the IUB has been making remarkable
progress both qualitatively and quantitatively.
During the past two years 125 projects worth
3000 million Rupees have transformed the
university into a very progressive institution.
A number of 54 projects have been completed
and nine mega projects out of remaining
72 are being funded by HEC. At present a
total of 12,000 students has awarded the
IUB the status of a international University.
Prof. Dr. Belal A. Khan also detailed the
outstanding performance of IUB in Inter
University Sports and performing arts competition.
He also lauded the generous support of the
Governor for patronizing IUB and getting
the grants of HEC and Govt. of Punjab.
The Governor Punjab later on awarded degrees
and medals to the Ph.D, M.Phil and M.A students.
After the Convocation "MIME" was
presented by the Dramatic Club IUB. The
Governor announced a cash prize of Rs. 200,000/-
for the Dramatic Club for their excellent
performance.
The Governor Punjab Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid
Maqbool also inaugurated Amna Girls Hostel,
Ali Boys Hostel and the newly constructed
main gate of Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus.
